Venice Custom Bicycle Show

I spent the better part of Sunday at Venice Beach checking out the bike show. The majority of the booths were for custom chopper bicycle garages but the LAB had a spot between the concert stage and the bmx/skate park, prime real estate for people watching. I took tons of chopper photos but the batman inspired bike was my favorite...

The Batmobike, complete with jagged dagger from hell holster

The LAB tent

Bike path next to the graffiti walls

live music

BMX'ers doin' their thing - best trick competition later that day

low riders

And then this girl showed up - purple and white from head to toe she was perfectly matching the custom Bare Knuckle the LAB had on display.

nice bike...

Monster Cog

*post transfered from 2/20 ~9:30 pm

I finished putting on my new Soma cromoly track cog minutes ago with a little help from the guys at the LAB. At 19 teeth this thing is enormous!

Ratios I've tested so far (in order)

  1. 52x14
  2. 46x14
  3. 46x15
  4. 46x19
If you're riding brakeless, I think 46x17 or 49x17 may be the ticket, but for now, I think a dramatically lower gear ratio will make for a good change of pace. A much slower one. But if you're at a point in your riding where tricks are beginning to displace the need for speed; make life easier on yourself and lower your gear ratio.

LA Brakeless - The Lab

Los Angeles Brakeless Bicycles aka The Lab recently opened making it the only track/fixie specialized bike shop in west LA.

Check them out on Motor Ave between National and Palms... nestled between a pizza place and a liquor store their shop completes the holy trinity.
