Soma toe clips break!

Some people call them cages but if you're shopping around for the thing attached to your pedal that your foot goes into for better cadence be forewarned - my Soma clips broke!

Replacing parts due to wear/tear as you ride is to be expected... hell, whether they'll admit it or not, most fixed gear riders look forward to it. I think most cyclists would agree that of all the parts to malfunction, toe clips are close to dead last on the list of suspects and aside from the rare pavement scrape and even rarer foot smash when I mistakenly think the clip is top-side down; I didn't put them under any extraordinary stress/trauma. To that end, I couldn't believe what I was seeing...

Popped a wheelie a little after the light at Ocean Park and Main St. (Venice) when they split clean in half...

jaws of steel - "rawwr"

Why would I replace something that broke with the same thing? Because options for double-strap clips are limited and I intend to cap the toes with leather in hopes of preventing this in the future... but if you can find/get your hand on some MKS double-strap clips then go with those!

Oro's got a new left clip

my bike will be 1yr old this October - i guess 1 broken clip/yr isn't so bad... any brand/clip in particular that has held up well for you?

Back in the day, my Christophe toe clips used to outlast some of my bikes. I'm told that the MKS is practically a copy, with nicer hardware. They're not of the double-gate variety, but if they're anywhere near as good as the Christophes (which haven't been made in about 25 years or so), you shouldn't have any problem.
